Start Your JourneyAbout Jane Jacobs / What is Jane's Walk?
Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) was an urbanist and activist whose writings championed a fresh, community-based approach to city building. She saw cities as ecosystems that had their own logic and dynamism which would change over time according to how they were used.
Jane's Walk was founded in Toronto in May 2007 as a living, walking commemoration of Jane and her legacy. A Jane's Walk is a walking conversation that can be about anything. These walks hold space for the perspectives of anyone who has a story to tell.
Land Acknowledgement
As an immigrant to this land, I acknowledge that I now live, work, and learn on the traditional territories of many Indigenous nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples. This land has been home to Indigenous communities for thousands of years and continues to be a place of deep connection for many First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
Coming from a different part of the world, I recognize that my journey here has been shaped by opportunities that were made possible through the long and complex history of this land - one that includes displacement, resilience, and ongoing struggles for justice. I am grateful for the privilege of calling this place home, and I acknowledge that this privilege comes with a responsibility.
